Bing Shopping Campaigns Comes to Bing Ads Editor!

The holiday season is right around the corner and we are pleased to announce the release of Bing Shopping Campaigns in Bing Ads Editor v11.4 across all markets where Shopping Campaigns are supported (United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Germany). You can now efficiently bulk manage your Shopping Campaigns, Product Groups, and Product Ads, just in time for the holidays! Learn more about Bing Shopping Campaigns.

You can now create, update, or delete Shopping Campaigns from Bing Ads Editor. We have added the Campaign Type attribute to the Campaign entity, which enables you to create either Shopping campaigns or Search and Content campaigns. We also added a new Shopping tab in the editor pane, where you can set your Store ID, Country/Region of sale, and Campaign priority.

Product groups

We heard your feedback - bulk managing product groups is not easy. Even if you use Bulk Operations, the need to have a parent product group ID for each product group is cumbersome. So now, not only are we supporting product groups in Bing Ads Editor, we’ll also be removing this restriction. The product group field now contains the complete path, which enables you to make changes without a parent ID. Additionally, with the complete path in product groups, you can quickly see the parent product groups without having to trace back to the parents one by one. This format aligns with product groups exported from AdWords Editor, so you can directly take the exported file from AdWords Editor and import it using Bing Ads Editor.

And that’s not all - performance metrics are also available for product groups to help you make optimal bid adjustments.

  • Product groups filed cannot be edited directly from the editor pane or grid, however, you can change them from Make multiple changes or Import. You can change attributes such as Type, Bid, and Destination URL directly from the editor pane or grid.
  • Each ad group has one product group and vice versa.

Product Ads

Product Ads can also be easily managed in bulk in Bing Ads Editor. Please note that each ad group requires a corresponding product ad in order for your ads to serve.

Google Import

Bing Shopping Campaigns, product groups, and product ads can be imported seamlessly from your AdWords account. Please make sure to associate your Bing Merchant Center’s store ID to the imported campaigns.

Bing Ads Editor version 11.2 features callout extensions, custom ads for native ads, and efficiency updates

We are pleased to announce the release of Bing Ads Editor version 11.2 , with support for Callout Extensions, Custom Ads for Native, and some efficiency upgrades to help you manage your campaigns faster. Each new release of Editor is a response to your feedback on what is needed most, so keep it coming, and read on for more details.

Callout Extension

We announced Callout Extensions back in April, which enrich your ads by highlighting the best of your business. With this release, we added support for Callout Extensions to help you efficiently manage them in bulk. Each campaign and ad group can have up to 20 Callout Extensions associated.

Bing Ads Editor has Shared Callout Extensions, enabling you to create one Shared Callout Extension, and then associate it with multiple campaigns and ad groups.

Custom Ads for Native

Custom ads for Native give advertisers the ability to provide ad copy for Bing Native Ads that is different from their search ad copy. Native ads perform better when they explain benefits and entice users to read more about a product and service, as opposed to a typical call to action in a search ad. This feature gives advertisers the power to create separate ad text for native and search; and native ads will serve only for native placements as long as there is at least one search ad in the ad group.

In order to create Custom ads for native, simply select “Native” as “Ad format preference” for your text ads in Bing Ads Editor. Learn more about Bing Native Ads.

Automatic removal of duplicate items during import

We heard your feedback that manually removing duplicate items after importing is time consuming and cumbersome. That’s why we take care of de-duplicating items for you in Editor 11.2. While importing, any duplicate items except one will be skipped, eliminating the need for you to manually delete them.

Bing Ads Editor 11.1 features usability improvements and enhanced performance with 64-bit version

In May, we released an all-new Bing Ads Editor version 11.0 and received positive feedback. We also got great suggestions to further improve the new Bing Ads Editor. So, in this new release, we have focused on incorporating the enhancements you requested. We’re also pleased to let you know that we are now also launching a 64-bit version of Bing Ads Editor. If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows operating system and have at least 8 GB memory, installing a 64-bit version of Bing Ads Editor will further optimize the performance.

Usability improvements:
Based on your feedback, we have made the following enhancements to make Bing Ads Editor even more intuitive and easier to use:

Although you could cut, copy, and paste items such as keywords, ad groups, campaigns, and more in version 11.0, dragging and dropping items was not possible. With v11.1, you can now intuitively drag and drop items within the same account or even across multiple accounts. Few things to note are:

  1. Dragging and dropping items within the account will cut and paste the items.
  2. Dragging and dropping items across accounts will copy and paste the items.
  3. Pressing the “Control” key when dragging and dropping will always copy and paste items.
  4. Dropping items are only allowed on the tree view in the left pane.
  5. Dragging and dropping items from the “Shared library” is not supported.

You told us that it is easy to forget that you are in preset views that filters out items (such as “Paused” views or “Editorial disapproval” views) and get confused why all your items are not showing up in the grid. In order to solve this problem, we now underline all preset views, except the “All” view, to provide a visual clue that some of your items may not be showing up.

In order to enable you to quickly see what items you have newly added or edited, we have added two new preset views called “New items” and “Edited items.”

“PARENT STATUS” TO ALL APPLICABLE ITEMSKnowing the status of parent items can be very helpful when managing your campaigns. So, with this release, you can now see the parent status for all applicable items right in the grid.

Note: You can add “Parent status” field from Column chooser if it is not already showing up.

The columns in the grids of Bing Ads Editor can be added, removed, and rearranged as needed. In the previous version, the custom arrangement of columns would sometimes get reset to the default layout upon downloading metrics by clicking “View statistics.” We have now fixed this glitch with this version.

Although the message for editorial errors were clear and descriptive in Bing Ads Editor user interface, upon export, the file used to have a slightly different message and the specific rejection reason was not included. We have changed the text in the exported file to include all the details that are shown in the user interface.

Editorial Error as shown in Bing Ads Editor UI

     Editorial Error in exported file

"Your text ad is disapproved because it violates our advertising policies. Policy Violation: Adult content (Location: Param 2, Market:AU,CA,IN,ID,IE,MY,NZ,PH,SG,VN,TH,GB,US) Your ad violates policy when substituted with keywords. Please fix the keywords and appeal the ad."

We now have a 64-bit version for Bing Ads Editor. If you have 64-bit Windows operating system and at least 8 GB of memory, installing 64-bit version will optimize the performance of Bing Ads Editor, enabling you to get things done even faster.

Go to the download page to install the 64-bit version of Bing Ads Editor.
Please note:

  • If you already have a 32-bit version of Bing Ads Editor installed, then you will first need to uninstall the 32-bit version (this will delete the downloaded accounts) and then install the 64-bit version. Please note that this will delete your downloaded accounts, so after the installation, you will have to download your accounts again.
  • Keep in mind that Image Microsoft Bing Ads Editor version 11.0 and older Image Bing Ads Editor version 10 can run side-by-side, so you will need to uninstall 32-bit version of both the applications before you install the 64-bit version.

Bing Ads Editor 11.0: Multi-account management support, visual redesign, and more

We are extremely excited to announce the release of Bing Ads Editor (BAE) 11.0 – built from ground up to make it more efficient for you to manage your campaigns. When building BAE 11.0, we focused on answering two questions. First, how can we enable you to do more in less time? Second, how can we improve the user interface to make it easier for you to use Bing Ads Editor? Support for managing multiple accounts addresses the first question, and a host of usability updates packaged into a visual redesign addresses the second. Let’s take a closer look at these.

Support for managing multiple accounts

Have multiple large accounts to download? Need to import multiple accounts? Must make those urgent bulk edits within the next hour? No problem! With multi-account support, you can do these all at the same time.

Start with opening the Account Manager window and add as many accounts as you want.

Bing Ads Editor 11

In the previous version, you could download only one account at a time, but not do anything else until the download completed. With BAE 11.0, there is no more waiting! While the downloads of accounts are in progress you can open any number of previously downloaded accounts and work on them, too. For example, say you have five accounts currently being downloaded.  During that time, you can open a previously downloaded account and do an Import.  While that import is in progress, you can open yet another account and do bulk edits.  Multi-tasking is easy in the new Editor.

Bing Ads Editor 11

Copy/Paste across accounts

With support for multiple account management comes the ability to copy and paste across accounts. You can copy keywords, ads, even whole campaigns from one account to another with just a few clicks.

Bing Ads Editor 11

Visual Redesign

We have completely redesigned Bing Ads Editor’s interface for a fresh and more user-friendly experience, with key improvements such as:

Improved navigation with type list

The new type list on the left panel better organizes different items (Campaigns, Ad groups, Keywords, Sitelink extensions, etc.) than the tabs in the previous version of BAE. This enables you to navigate to the items that you want to work on faster than before. Additionally, the count of different types of items are now always shown on the type list itself – no need to go to individual tabs anymore to find them.

Bing Ads Editor 11

Sorted tree view in the left panel

In order to help you get to your Active campaigns faster, the tree view in BAE 11.0 now sorts your Campaigns/Ad groups intuitively by automatically surfacing those Active at the top of the list, followed by Paused, and Deleted at the bottom.

Bing Ads Editor 11

Improved advanced search interface

We heard your feedback that when displaying results after an advanced search, there aren’t any visual cues to indicate that all data may not be showing, except for the change in the View name. To address this, BAE 11.0 shows the search criteria you have entered for advanced search right below the search bar. Furthermore, the type list now clearly shows the number of matching results out of total counts.

Bing Ads Editor_New1

We have also cleaned up the advanced search window to make it more intuitive to use, while maintaining all its functionality.

Bing Ads Editor_Old2

Bing Ads Editor_New2

Note: Filtering based on performance statistics is now placed along with other search criteria.

Advanced options

In the previous version of BAE, advanced options for different items (e.g.  Additional targeting, Exclude website, etc. for Ad groups; Advanced Bid Changes, Advanced URL changes, Replace text, etc. for Keywords) were located at the very bottom of the Editor pane as blue links. These options are now put under Advanced options right above the manager pane for convenient, centralized access.

Simplified login

Have you ever wondered whether to sign in to Editor with your Microsoft account or Bing Ads username? You can now simply enter your username and BAE will automatically determine the type of credentials you entered and prompt you to enter your password - one less thing to think about before diving into your campaigns.

New in Editor: Native Ads, faster ad extension imports

We are pleased to announce the release of Bing Ads Editor version 10.9.1. This version includes a bundle of exciting features such as support for Bing Native Ads, faster ad extension imports and improved editorial messaging. Thank you for your feedback that made this release possible, read on for details.

Support for Bing Native Ads

Bing Native Ads are ads where the subject matter and visual design are relevant to the pages they are displayed on. They expand the reach of the Bing Ads platform to target user intent, even beyond search. The most powerful intent signals on the web include:

  • Users’ interests expressed by their prior search queries
  • Intent signals from the content of the experience in which the users are at any given point
  • User actions like looking for products or taking actions on advertiser sites

Bing Native Ads combine these intent signals with native experiences which are relevant and natural. Whether you are brand building or aiming to increase consumers’ purchase intent, native ads are an effective, scalable and rapidly growing solution.

With this release of Bing Ads Editor, you can now quickly make Native Ads bid adjustments to your campaigns and ad groups, either from the edit pane or directly from the grid. You can change bids from -100% (to opt-out) to +900%. Learn more about Bing Native Ads.

Note: If you don’t see this in your Bing Ads Editor yet, don’t worry.  This feature is being rolled out gradually to ensure an optimal user experience.

Improvement in editorial messaging

We have made improvements to the editorial messages shown for policy violations. If your ads, keywords or ad extensions are disapproved, in addition to a message, you’ll also receive a link to the most relevant editorial policy page for further detail and assistance on the appropriate action.

 bing ads editor

Note: This change replaces showing the term that was flagged and the rejection reason summary.

Faster Ad Extension imports

We continually strive to find ways to save your time by improving the performance of Bing Ads Editor. We’re pleased to announce that in this release, importing ad extensions is now 5 times faster!

Decommissioning Content Ads

Editor will no longer support Content Ads for non-US customers. Learn more here about the changes in Content Ads.

Details on Bing Ads changes with AOL partnership

As Rik mentioned in his blog post this morning, we are excited to share that Bing now powers AOL’s web, mobile, and tablet search, providing paid search ads and algorithmic organic search results to AOL’s properties worldwide, and exclusively in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. With this partnership, we are rolling out several changes inside Bing Ads, including the Campaigns page, Reporting page, Google AdWords Import experience, and Keyword and Campaign Planners. This article provides details on what you’ll see.

Bing Ads – Campaigns Page

Ad distribution setting is used to specify where you want your ads shown. This can be set during Campaign creation and Ad Group creation and updated at the Ad Group level. The options for search Ad distribution has changed to include AOL network as shown in the screenshots below.

Note: You don’t have to make any changes to your Ad distribution settings.  Your current settings will continue to be honored, with the addition of AOL properties in each of the three options.

Bing Ads – Reports Page

1. Network Column

Currently, the ‘Network’ column in reports (e.g. Keyword performance report, Campaign performance report) has following possible values:

We have added a new value to the ‘Network’ column:

Note: The above addition will be applicable to reports run from Reporting API as well. Click here to learn more.

2. Top Vs. Other Column

Currently, the ‘Top Vs. Other’ column in reports (e.g. Keyword performance report, Campaign performance report) has following possible values:

We have added new values to the ‘Top Vs. Other’ column:

Note: The above additions will be applicable to reports run from Reporting API as well. Click here to learn more.

3. Website URL (Publisher) Report

Currently, in the ‘Website URL’ column of the ‘Website URL (Publisher)’ report, all Bing and Yahoo! owned & operated websites are consolidated under ‘Bing and Yahoo! Search Properties Only’. However, for AOL owned and operated websites, the actual website URLs will be displayed as separate line items and not consolidated.

4. Change History Report

If you have made changes to your network distribution prior to January 1st, 2016, your old values and new values in Change History will be updated to include the AOL network. However, please note that your ads have been served only on Bing and Yahoo properties before January 2016. This will also happen to the data in the Change History tab.

Bing Ads Editor

In Bing Ads Editor, Network distribution for ad groups can be changed from the Edit pane of the Ad Groups tab. The options for Network distribution has changed to include AOL network in all three options as shown in the screenshot below.

bing ads aol

Note: You don’t have to make any changes to your Ad distribution settings.  Your current settings will continue to be honored, with the addition of including AOL properties in each of the three options.

Google AdWords Import

Ad groups that are imported from Google AdWords have the default Ad distribution set to “All search networks” -- this is not changing. However, “All search networks” now includes AOL search beside just Bing and Yahoo owned & operated and syndicated search partners.

Bing Ads – Keyword Planner

In Keyword Planner, Network targeting for historical statistics and traffic estimates can be changed from the Targeting section. The options for Network targeting has changed to include AOL network in all three options as shown in the screenshot below.

bing ads aol

With the corresponding selection, both historical statistics - including avg. monthly searches, competition, and suggested bid - and traffic estimates take into account AOL traffic.

Bing Ads - Campaign Planner

Following the same definition of search network distribution across Bing Ads, Campaign Planner calculates AOL into corresponding slices of traffic as well.

You might see traffic volume trending up in vertical, product and keyword levels because of new added AOL properties.
